Towards 4+5 in the news
In October 2009, The Guardian newspaper featured a publication in the Lancet co-authored by Anthony Costello, director of the Towards 4+5 RPC. The article highlights a mathematical model which shows that basic drugs (antibiotics - stop deaths from sepsis, and misoprostol - which prevents haemorrhage) can save lives during childbirth in Africa. In September 2009 The New York Times has featured a publication involving LSHTM students and staff on improving birthing practices in Peru. Read the article.
A research dissemination event, organised by GREFSaD in Burkina Faso and funded by the Towards 4+5 Research Programme Consortium, has received extensive coverage in the national media in Burkina Faso, including articles in articles in Le Pays, L Express du Faso, and L Evenement.
In September 2008, Towards 4+5 was featured in a special supplement in the Guardian newspaper that focused on the Millennium Development Goals and was produced in collaboration with DFID. The article entitled 'Simple things that can make a difference' highlights some of the research that Consortium members have been involved in as well as efforts to link research as closely as possible with policymaking and practice on the ground.
